Ben Curry is an English man who has lived in Colombia for most of his life. He set up his ranch, Curucucu and had many adventures before his was forced to flee to the Caribbean coast where he still lives in a small shack by the sea. He was the inspiration of Louis de Bernières' 'The War of Don Emmanuel's Nether Parts'. Locally know as simply 'El Gringo', Ben is a well know figure in the community. At 80 odd years old he is going deaf, yet still faces the strong currents every day to swim naked in the ocean.
