On the way to Seoul

October 16, 2009

Time: 10am

Location: In a cloud

Everyone has been given little round blueberry muffins with breakfast. Mine is in the shape of a heart. Naww. I love being vegetarian (:

Time: 10.15am

Location: Still in cloud

However I am concerned about their melons. They’re all cut to exactly the same size and look peculiarly like the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

Time: 11am

Location: No idea I fell asleep

They’re selling Jimmy Choos duty free! Was tempted to grab a pair and run but then remembered I am, in fact, on an aeroplane.

Time: 12.04pm

Location: Just cleared PNG

The movie is a Korean drama featuring an FBI agent (or equivalent) whose name is Mr Gwak. I am finding it hard to take him serioiusly.

Time: 1.57pm

Location: Middle of the ocean (but still in plane, not drowning)

Well. Mr Gwak just turned into a mutant wild pig so turns out I actually am not expected to take him seriously. That’s Korean cinematics for you.

Time: 2.43pm  Location: Guam

I had a dream that I was singing Disney songs really loudly in front of the entire plane. Just woke up and the lady next to me was giving me a strange look. Do hope I wasn’t sleep talking.

Time: 5.33pm Korean Standard Time!

Location: Seoul

Have made it out alive! Kim – 1; Airline – 0.

Time: 8.43pm

Location: Seoul

Seoul is such a weird place.

Incheon airport is about an hour outside of the city so I caught a bus to the hotel. Right up until maybe 10 minutes outside of the CBD everything is normal. But then suddenly there are all these high-rise buildings with absolutely no lights on. It looks like a ghost town; it’s so abnormal. As well as that here’s a thunderstorm tonight and the lightening made the city look incredibly scary. I felt like I was driving into George Orwell’s 1984. Even when you get right into the centre of the city the majority of lights in the high-risers are off, and the ones that are on look strangely dimmed. It’s so bizarre. It would seem that they’re being conservative about their power usage but then they do all this other random stuff – like have multicoloured fluorescent lights decorating their street lamps. I don’t get it.

In other news, my Internet isn’t working and I don’t know why – hope its something to do with the hostel, not my laptop. I was on briefly before but it died and hasn’t started working yet… will sort it out when I get to London.

Speaking of London, Anne can’t meet me at the airport anymore, we got dates confused and it turns out she’s in Florence this weekend. Ah well. Am a little concerned as I now don’t have anywhere to stay tomorrow night and don’t get into London until about 6. But I shall figure it out. Hm. Internet would be really handy right now.

Ugh, I shall deal with it tomorrow. Need to sleep. Damn I hate long haul flights.

Time: 9.34pm

Location: Very nice hotel bathroom.

Oh shit. I think I left my toothbrush at home.

Time: 10.16pm

Location: Very nice hotel bathroom again

Oh my they have heated toilet seats.

On the down side, still haven’t found my toothbrush. Surely I could not possibly be that stupid.
