My Scholarship entry - International Indian Finals Rodeo, Albuquerque, New Mexico

USA | Tuesday, January 8, 2013 | 5 photos

Three months prior, I was an aspiring photographer who lived in Perth, Australia and took pictures of people and places from the bus, to and from my daily grind. Photography was the one thing that sustained me through a difficult situation over the span of a few years. Making pictures helped me digest and make sense of my world, limited as it was, and provided an escape at the same time.

Late 2012, I made the decision to sever all ties to my existing life and really make sense of the world. I got rid of everything that wouldn't fit in a human sized bag and a smaller backpack and am on the brink of life as a nomad.

I've had the fortune of receiving many helping hands when I was completely down and out, and I could spend the rest of my life paying it forward and still not settle the debt.

I cannot think of a more positive debt to work towards returning, in whatever way I can, especially in the one thing that has kept me sane, and sustained me through the trials of life thus far: making images.
