We weren’t in Amsterdam long enough to come up
with a more creatively named title for the post. Just the name will do.
We were there for one full day, sandwiched between travel days. The
first day we just dropped off our luggage at the hostel (The Flying Pig
Downtown, to those of you who have been there, what a crazy place!) and
hit the pavement. As I’ve been saying since our trip started, the
weather was amazing.
We found a cafe, had some lunch and a drink, and then started
walking. I had been there before a few times, and Val had seen it
briefly during a layover, so we knew more or less what we wanted to
see. London hit our wallets hard, making us hesitant to spend money on
entrance fees and museums. We’ll just have to go back again for those.
The walking tour in Amsterdam is nice though because the city center is
so small, everything you’d really want to see is in easy walking
distance from Amsterdam Centraal.
The morning of the first full day we decided to rent bikes and ride
out into the countryside. We took a ferry our of town and just started
riding, and eventually ended up at the beach! Once again, the weather
was amazing and it was a perfect day to sit on a beach in Holland and
soak up the sun. We bought provisions at a grocery store and had a
picnic on the beach before heading back to the city for the evening.
As brief an account as that is, there isn’t much more to it than
that. Lots of walking, sitting and enjoying the sun and the views, and
chilling at the hostel.
