Holy Town of Pushkar

Namaste,

After 10 hours on a dusty local bus from Agra we arrived in Ajmer and transferred immediately by 'taxi' (tuk tuk) to Pushkar. Hesitant to put ourselves through another long bus trip for a while we decided to stay here in Pushkar for 2 weeks.  Pushkar is a town positioned around its holy lake, with Bathing Ghats and guest houses with roof top terraces lining its circumferance.  On the 5 November the camel festival commences and the whole town and its surroundings will accomodate thousands of camels from all over India.  We are looking forward to celebrating this day, my birthday, by joining in the festivities of this fair.  We are uncontactable by mobile phone here though, so any messages sent are not getting though to us at this time, and wont be received until about 7th November.

Tomorrow we depart on a camel treck to watch the sun set, and will be camping overnight.  The rest of our time here will be spent eating, drinking chai, and relaxing on rooftops admiring the incredible views.  There's really not much to say except the food here is amazing and everything is extremely cheap.  The whole town is vegetarian and doesn't eat egg.  Alcohol and public affection are prohibited and you cant wear shoes within 10 yards of the lake.

I am having a top made from an Israeli design for about 7 dollars. Our accomodation costs about 9 dollars a night and a huge meal is about 3 dollars, with naan and rice and curry and drink.  We finally found a place to stay with hot water, horray.  We intended to wake at 4.30am this morning and treck up this mountain nearby to see the sunrise but at 4.30am when the alarm went off suddenly it didn't seem so appealing to us anymore... so we will do it another day, when we are more motivated.  Matt is uploading some photos at present to illustrate the beauty that we are experiencing on a daily basis here... writing about it really doesn't do it justice.  Love and peace from this hippy town. xo
