My Photo scholarship 2011 entry

During my few days long journey to Marocco, I went to see a small town by the ocean called Essaouira. I always try to look for pictures in less touristic places. I went to the harbor and was so lucky with the weather – it was grey and misty, perfect for the surroundings. I was so happy and amazed by the life at this port – like a whole different world where fish was being taken off the boat, sold and hacked all in the same spot. It was fisherman’s port and market at the same time – so unique and authentic.
But I also wanted to share the sadness I felt when I went to the other point of the town, where the ocean and the beach is a waste dump and place for swimming for the local children.
I believe that all the pictures we take are part of preservation work – we capture the time, the era, traditions, everything about that moment.
For me personally photography is living and seeing.
When I was a child I spent a lot of time with my dad closed in the bathroom watching him while he was processing the photographs.
I think those were the moments I fell in love with the photography.
I want to live this way. I want to make beautiful images, contribute by this creative art while traveling, meeting different cultures – exchanging energies and living. I am so excited and even positively hysterical and all other mix of emotions that I feel, whenever I think I might have THAT job one day.
I am an ambitious dreamer. I need teaching, learning and an opportunity. Thank you for organizing these scholarships!
