Salvador
Monday 16th August
Salvador (translation: Jesus) is the ancient capitol of Brazil and the old part of the city was heritage listed by UNESCO late last century. We had the absolute joy of a beautiful guide who went out of her way to show us her city and finished up in the heritage centre. The highlight was the St Francis church in the centre of the town. The structure commenced in 1591 and words cannot describe it's beauty, which is unfortunate as we were not allowed to take photographs.
We also visited the slave area where the poor slaves were traded and locked away before and after transport. We wanted to get out as soon as we could – stifling, terrible and such a heavy-hearted place. Salvador is the largest African city outside Africa.
Carole's lovely description of the people of Salvador is that they have God t heir hearts and and the Devil in their groins. Sounds good to us!
We're enjoying your narrative Jim. Good job. So far your adventures sound like all you'd hope for. Be safe.
