My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Israel | Wednesday, January 9, 2013 | 5 photos

Photography started as a result of my skiing. It was a way for me to show what I do: hike up, ski down. I never wanted it to be more than a fun hobby. Unintentionally, it evolved. The creative juices started as a trickle, like water in the mountains. A ways downstream, it is a roaring river. I find myself trying to take dynamic photographs. I yearn to capture the clarity I achieve in the snowy sanctuary so rarely traveled by humans.

I recently visited Israel. The river of creativity became a flood. I had experienced creativity rushes in a city before, but not on this level. Jewish tradition, though usually dormant, runs strong through my blood. Blame the fresh squeezed juice, the Wailing Wall, Masada, the people. Not surprisingly, something has been stirred.

When in doubt, I do my best to focus on enjoying the moment. My hobbies may consume and redefine me like a tsunami. As a result, I must be the surfer. They started as fun, and should stay that way. I would like to continue to display the extraordinary in the seemingly mundane, and do the extraordinary justice with images I take. I have a long way to go with everything. I’m young, so time is on my side.
