My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Australia | Monday, January 14, 2013 | 5 photos

I have a vivid memory from the age of ten. My mother asked me the usual question about my future. I told her that that I didn't care if I was living in a cardboard box and eating baked beans straight out of a can, as long as I was doing something I loved. This memory represents a lot for me (besides my love of baked beans). It was around this age that I was given my first camera and I knew I had found the medium that I was passionate about. I love that one perfectly caught moment can speak volumes. This is why I’ve always been drawn to the photography in Nat Geo, which is aimed at uncovering truth. This scholarship would be an amazing opportunity to learn from a professional photographer like Jason Edwards. I want to explore the world. It’s hard to explain why I deserve this opportunity more than the next person, but I can tell you that I will not waste it. Oman looks to be an amazing country, I would love to explore the ancient architecture and photograph the beautiful landscapes, especially the wadis. I'm still young enough to believe that a thought, an image, a photo, can effect change and I would be humbled and overjoyed if I took a photo that one day made it into Nat Geo.
