Fishing Village in Ekas Bay

Fishing Village in Ekas Bay

INDONESIA | Saturday, 12 January 2013 | Views [431]

Ekas Bay doesn't look much different from the first time I went there. The traditional house where fishermen where working on their nets still stood with its dried paddy leaves roof. The floating path that led to the abandoned building in the middle of the sea also still stood firmly. On that path some people were squatting, standing while throwing their fishing line and waiting for some first hooked. Along the beach, fishermen boats were anchoring, some big baskets held by wooden sticks for catching fish adorn this bay. In front of the beach lied a village and some yellowish rocky hills. The slightly change only I don't find myself as the only torist who came there. I think this place is getting known better.

When I was climbing one of the hills, I was aamazed when I found a middle age woman on her barely feet. She was wearing saroong under and wore a simple top. She also covered her had with white saroong to protect herself from the sting sunlight. She was up and down the hill for some dried trees. While consentrating and struggling to reach the top of the rocky hill I asked her in Sasak "Makade kuat laloq turun taek?" and she replied that she get used to climb of hills fo the dried trees since he was young. No wonder, practice always makes everything a lot easier.

It was tiring and exosting effort but when I reach the top I know it was definitly worth. From the top of the hill. the whole view of Ekas Bay could be seen. the fisherman boats looked very small on the blue turquoise water. The shallow and the deep part of Ekas Bay were clearly pictured. The hills that stood along the bay seems shorter. Ekas always looks amazing from any level it is viewed.

To be able to enjoy the beauty of nature and of traditional fishermen's life in Ekas you need to drive about two hours from Mataram. This place is officially part of East Lombok. It is located in subdistrict of Jerowaru. Consider the weather there is as twice hot as Mataram. Remember to bring your umbrella, sunglasses and sunscreen. Have a good holiday.
