Elodie and Zack's Trip to Asia Elodie and Zack in Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia

For our last day in Hoi An, we planned to go to the beach again and lie in the sun. Beach towels at the ready and sunglasses on, we stepped out of our windowless and soundproof room, only for Elodie to hear Zack exclaim 'Holy Guacamole!'- there was a torrential downpour outside- a monsoon! As a result, we were told that our mini excursion to My Son would not be worth it in the rain as it consisted of walking around outside, and even if we did want to go, the streets were so flooded that minibus would have taken HOURS. Instead, we braved Hoi An Old Town, which after a while, when the rain died down a bit, still looked very pretty. We then had lunch, but whilst eating our noodles, it started to tip it down again. Not wanting to stay in the hotel all day, we went out looking for something to do. At times the rain was so hard that you could not see to the end of the road. We came across a beauty salon that looked nice and cosy and we were drenched so whilst Elodie had a manicure, Zack settled for a 'much needed' pedicure- his feet were skanky. After relaxing for about half an hour, then arguing about the price with the owner, we had no choice but to sprint into what now looked like a river with only one small raincoat to cover two backpacks and us. We have forgotten to mention that Zack was wearing a crop top- joke a vest top. We were making all sorts of noises as we ran, and often waded, through the flooded streets- we got many bemused stares from locals and more sensible tourists taking cover in shops. We sat in our restaurant and played a couple of games of pool and had dinner and a pancake to fill us up before we got on the 'Hell Bus' as we now call it. After Zack FINALLY purchased a raincoat, which he practically stole off an old woman for 20p, we ran all the way back to our hotel again. We changed into clean, dry clothes before getting onto a big, yellow bus. Fortunately, we were grouped at the back with a load of tourists. Unfortunately, Zack was next to a large girl from Canada who incorporated half of Zack's bed into hers and got irritated every time he moved. We woke up feeling disgusting and had to find a new hotel which is most definately the worst part. We bargained but to no avail until a man on a shiny motorbike, who answered to the name of 'Eddie Murphy' and was part of the 'Easy Riders' crew, came to our rescue. He took us on the back of his 'Low Rider' to a very cheap hotel he knew and they had a room yay! After thanking him he rode off into the night- no, not really- down the road.

We spent today booking a diving course and an Island hopping, snorkelling tour for the next two days. We are very excited! We also familiarised ourselves with Nha Trang. In smaller news, Elodie bought a towel after lying on plastic bags on the beach. Zack opted for stealing the hotels'- it was 'all part of the price' he claimed. We are sitting on the beach writing this in a notebook before dinner to save time. Zack has just been pestered by a boy to buy chewing gum. When he said 'no thank you', the boy ruffled Zack's hair and walked away. Zack jutted his head forward to try and avoid it and his face was priceless! A mixture of horror and irritation. he exclaimed 'Oh no! I've probably got lice now. That's what they do when you say no you know.' In the heat of the moment he retaliated by squashing an ant which had just bitten him on the leg. Anyway, off for dinner.

Love to all! xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Elodie- Jamie- Ouch Jamie! That sounds so painful! Did you cry? Don't lie! Tessa- I sent you an email back :D Claire- You know that I love a challenge and competition so in response to your earlier comment about the cat pictures- me and chippy's cat, me and your cat after the feeling maybe? aaaaaaaaand the cat in cofu, pebble. HA IN YOUR FACE! xxxxxxxxxxx

Zack- Mum, Dad and Kit- Hope you got to the airport ok and that you've settled in. It is strange to think that none of the Holmes family are in England! Actually, it's not that strange, it happens every time lol. Jamie- Kids sell tiger balm here to earn money, I bet you could have used some after that jump! Claire- Sky-diving sounded SO COOL! I can't wait to see the DVD and laugh- joke. Peace xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

GAH I jsut wrote out the longest most epic comment ever only for the stupid website to lose it all ! Bad times 
Oh well, here we go again:
Elodie, I am VERY impressed that you could remember all of those cat photos, especially the one of you with Tabby after the Feeling! Clearly I underestimated you haha  I can’t wait for you to come back so you can see all the new pics; there are some great corfu and prom ones up, also one i find very amusing of zack and joe – zack’s gazing at him with this stare of complete unrequited love and joe is like ‘ummmmmmmmmmmm’. LOL.
This was one of your funniest posts so far – zack, all the mental images of you both running through a monsoon, your skanky feet, you ‘stealing’ a raincoat off an old lady and upsetting large Canadian girls had me smiling haha. I’m glad you’re having such an authentic experience, because it makes the great bits even better (plus, it contributes to your ‘interestimg/amusing story’ count for croyde :D)
Hmmmm, what else to say... I went to see Toy Story 3 last night with Laura, her boyf (idk if i’ve said this already, but he is LOVELY. You would both really like him. he’s invited me, katy and freya to come up to his house with laura and have a house party with all her posh school friends hahaha. Clearly the HIGHLIGHT of my summer/life), larry mccarthy and one of his mates. I thought the film was rly good but larry & friend weren’t so sure – they kept trying to judge it on its merit as a piece of art and i was like ‘GUYS IT’S A KIDS FILM’ ... and a really good one at that. There’s this hilarious scene were mr potato head is a tortilla... i can’t really describe it lol, just make sure you get a pirate copy on your travels and watch it!!!
I’m a bit lonely atm, everyone seems to be away/ignoring me  katy is coming back from Tuscany soon tho so it’s all good. I’m also taking this involuntary social exclusion as an opportunity to work on a couple of ideas for my NOVEL (i know that sounds well pretentious – really i mean i’m writing random scenes and listening to music and drinking copious amounts of coffee haha). Ummmm what else to say. OH YEAH, you’ll both find this hilarious i’m sure – one of the guys who’s doing the French thing with me (there are five of us on the placement) is in the TA and wants to go into the army. When i first got it darvell was like ‘ooh, any possibilities (amongst the guys) and i was like no (BECAUSE I AM THERE TO WORK AND NOT THAT DESPERATE) but then i found out about his military leanings and i literally lol’d haha.
Also! I went to revs the other night for the first time with freya and Lauren butler and it was ok but not that great (a bit of a letdown tbh after amount everyone has been going on about it all year) but we met some really nice guys there from maidenhead (lol i know, far away) so it wasn’t a total loss. I’m still not that impressed with it as a venue tho – not nearly as good as croyde will be!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Good lord this is such an essay haha. I’m a bit embarrassed at how quickly i replied to this entry ha – shows how much i miss you both! Also, i think you must have screwed something up when posting, bc there are two entries with this title but only one has writing in. No doubt you will have rectified this by the time i actually post the comment and i’ll look like a douche.

Zack- you probably WILL laugh when you see the video; it’s surprisingly hard to smile when plummeting through the air at breakneck speeds!!! Here’s some cool data for you – the jump was from 13,000 feet and in freefall apparently we were falling the entire height of the Eiffel tower EVERY THREE SECONDS. I know, I know – I’m a total rockstar. :P

Elodieeeee – One of the boys I met at revs has met Orlando Bloom! When he was at uni (revs boy that is) OB was awarded an honorary degree in performing arts or something (bc he’s from Cantebury or whichever uni revs boy was at) and he was there to collect it on the same day as revs boy, so they had a chat! I know this is a minor piece of info, but I thought you’d appreciate it 
K, i’m going to go now and pretend i have friends who AREN’T in asia...
:P
LOVE YOU BOTH SO MUCH IT’S STUPID. xxxxxx

Jesus Claire, wanna write any more? ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Elodie, it was VERY painful, but no, i did not cry, but there was a lot of silent screaming inside, you know what i mean? the pain lasted for about half an hour, i couldnt believe it!! and tiger balm would have been very nice zack, but i didnt have any to hand!!
What exactly do you mean by "Hell Bus"? you call it this, but don't explain why!!
I'm still very jealous, but i'm so glad your having the times of your lives. stay safe!!! xxxxxxx

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA Claire's comment is longer than your blog! Claire, you're such an odd-ball. and EXCUSE ME - I am a friend who is very much NOT in Asia!

Anyway. This is hilarious, this one. I was laughing at many intervals - I don't know if it's your increasing writing talent or the hilarity of the actual events but either way, keep it up :D I agree with Jamie, can you explain the Hell-bus bit? Is that because of the fat Canadian woman? :S Also, I love the fact you got manicures and pedicures in the middle of a monsoon - that was mental image enough for a round of applause. And err zack, I think you'll find that actually, no, you're not meant to take the towels... just don't go back to any of the same hotels - you might have to engage in another high-speed motorcycle race :P how funny... Can't wait to hear about the snorkelling tour! So jealous of that - although I might do a bit of that myself in Antigua :)
much love! keep up the funny posts :D -- 'holy guacamole' - classic!

p.s. Claire's right the bit where mr potato head is a tortilla is possibly the funniest thing I've ever seen. WATCH IT! (I'm so impressed with myself being able to spell tortilla and guacamole - Mr Wescomb would be proud - Elodie do you remember the time I tried to read 'soldier' ?.... most embarassing moment of my life! But this must mean I'm losing some of my dyslexic tendancies in time for English at degree level - huzzah! either that or I'm just naturally talented when it comes to mexican spellings.... :S

oh, and by the way just to clarify, I know guacamole and torrilla are already spelt on this page but I SWEAR on the holy grail that I spelt them without looking at ANYTHING. It was just pure spelling genius. Just before anyone tries to take my triumph away from me.

  Em Jul 27, 2010 9:54 PM

5

Except that you spelt it torRilla in your self-justification, Emily. FAIL.

Motorbikes! Your poor mother! Glad you are having lots of fun and staying safe. We are getting tanned but not thin in Florida. We went to a water park yesterday and went down the clear tube into the dolphin pool but Adam was the only one to actually see the dolphins. Adam is making us all go to a Vans skate park today which is different and we are swimming with manatees in the river on Friday for our 16th wedding anniversary. Stay safe, looking forward to the photos, love and kisses, Joanne, Chris, Adam and Oscar xxxx

We're in Macdonalds in a storm. (They have free wifi) Margaux doesn't seem to mind that we were nearly blown to Switzerland on a surfboard while she watched a movie yet again in the bedroom. She didn't believe us but seemed surprised that all the table cloths and chairs had blown over!
