I live in northwest Mexico, near Sonora desert, but between prolific agricultural valleys. I visited a beach near my hometown for a photography homework. I found nothing. I didn't remembered that last year a hurricane struck the region, nobody was there, many houses were destroyed. This was just a one-day trip, I would take some quick photos and go. When I tried to start my car I realized It was stuck in the sand. I tried to solve the problem with my own hands, but was useless. Since the place was empty I couldn't ask for help. A woman in the middle of nowhere with a camera, a stuck car, and no cellphone signal. I was a bit scared. I decided to leave my camera, lock up my car and walk. I saw a small church not far away, but when I arrived, I saw a shattered wooden cross and sand all over the place, It was creepy. I saw another house that seemed right, but when I come inside to search for a shovel or something, there was a huge hole, I found that half of the house had been eaten by the sea. There were personal items all over the floor. I ran out from that place, I didn't know if someone died there, so I just tried to keep walking. It took me 40 minutes to arrive at a small old house, I found a group of fishermen, they were drinking beer. I felt very scared, so unprotected! I had no choice but trust them... I was surprised, I felt relieved when the car went out from the sand thanks to those men, I finally could go home safely. I learned a lot with this experience, I don't regret to do it just for a homework. I keep doing these small trips, I love to show people the beauty of those forgotten places. I wish to enhance my skills with every trip, I want someday to go camping in some remote places, just to take photos. I surely would love to live from travel photography.
