Once Upon a Time in Mexico

Voytek and I (Ranjene) thought it best to pamper ourselves into oblivion, before embarking on uncertain careers in the Film industry. Voytek took raw footage of our week-long trip to Cancun and I made a clown of myself. It’s what we do. Every moment is unscripted and there was no plan. While creating our film, we discovered a strange beauty in the banal moments mixed with the outright spontaneity of others. We tried to convey that no matter how exotic or “hardcore” the brand of adventure; we are ultimately the same wherever we go. This became our thesis. We understand that in order to be strong Filmmakers, we must be curious risk-takers. I have made several short films using only community resources and volunteers. Voytek has volunteered his time on several local films, to learn Camera and Cinematography. We do this out of sheer love for storytelling. Winning this scholarship would mean a real chance for us. We are not professional filmmakers, but that is our ultimate goal. We have a sincere desire to travel, connect with human experience first-hand , and share it. The mentorship this opportunity offers, would help us develop tremendously, as artists and individuals.
