As night descends and lights begin to glow the gold sheet covering the temple blazes with a brilliance that is reflected breathtakingly in the ‘amrit sarovar’(tank of holy water) that surrounds the shrine and gives the city of Amritsar it’s name.
For hours every day thousands of devotees sit in silent prayers in dimly lit corridors that surround the shrine and watch it while the melodious hymns being sung inside the temple fill the entire atmosphere and enter the heart and soul
