My Scholarship entry - Seeing the world through other eyes

Last October, I went with my boyfriend to Buenos Aires, Argentina.

So, we like to travel with him like a normal native citizen would, we took the subway, buses, trains, but the story I'm going to refer to, is from a taxi driver.

Since the presidential elections were around the corner, we asked him what did he thinked, if they had much political rally, or was just quiet, and he answered that he didn't voted for robbers and criminals.

That actually reflects argentinian situation refering to their politics: they distrust their governers, at the point they have marchs and protests every two days.

Also, the argentinian are pretty much the drama queen, they like to over react about things, like with the Chilean volcano eruption, they said it even reached Africa. That's why you kind of like this people, even if they like to exagerate things, they are pretty aware of their reality, and tend to do something about it.

And that is reflected even when watching people on the streets: the women have more make up than needed, they go to cafeterias to discuss in five minutes all the problems of the country (here is a little difference with uruguayans: they like to drink their coffe fast while discussing, an uruguayan can have hours drinking coffe even without a talk), they say hi with kisses and hugs, even if they don't know well between each other.

These guys, even if they are as cosmopolitan as any european, they have this fighting spirit in every action they do.

We finished our ride with our cab driver, with a final thought from him, that was taught by his father: even if they are criminals, and you know it, you have to love them equally, because you never know when they will do things right.
