Kicking myself all the way

My First Police Shake-Down

USA | Friday, 22 May 2015 | Views [122]

So, I finally got waved down at a Police check point today, about 70 miles south of the Caribbean coast of North East Colombia. Up till now I've been waved through all Police checkpoints, and the army ones too, since Mexico.

So I stop.

The Colombian Police officer looks at the bike, me, then puts out his hand and we shake!

Then Officer 2 wanders over, and we shake hands.

Then Officer 3, and we shake hands.

Whilst Officer 1 makes a show of checking my passport his mates ask me about the trip.

With my passport back in my pocket I am ready to go when Officer 3 says I have to pay $1.

Why?

National Park fee he says.

I laugh and say 'No Hay' (I don't have).

He laughs, we shake hands again, and I'm off.
