Veronika here. I realize this is Matthew's travelings but as he's out some where on the dirt roads of Baja at the moment without access to this blog, I thought I'd hijack his blog until he can add his own adventures.
Thanks to many of you who sent well wishes for his send off with Phil his brother. They left by 8am PDT and sent me a lovely photo of them stopping for a coffee break right outside of Tijuana after they got their visas sorted out. Funny thing is that Matthew had to buy his brother's bike off of him to put the title in Phil's name -- it's the second time that guy has bought this bike!
They made it to just south of Ensenada and it looks like the boys are really roughing it at a beachside resort with lobster and beers. I thought this was suppose to be roughing it?! He even has his swimming gear on ... what's that about? I was kindly sent an IM titled 'It's not quite as tough as I had feared :)x' with the lovely photo here so it seems he and Phil are traveling in style! Here he was complaining of no sleep for 90 days. Ahhhh, I hope he'll hang on to this moment in the days to come!
Anyway, Day 2 looks like it was dirt roads to Gonzaga Bay (http://fms.ws/MsJ1k/29.80750N/114.39583W) where I hope he and Phil found some whale sharks to hang with! a roadside coffee before making it to just outside of Ensenada (from his Spot ping: http://fms.ws/Mr9Kx/31.91073N/116.27194W) before settling in for a very tough night in a resort.
Day 3 and they are off in the dust. I just got a ping that they are near St. Ignacio (http://fms.ws/MsrnG/27.28175N/112.89523W) which is a gorgeous little town among date trees. I hope he finds the lump bed at Rice & Beans hotel after the luxurious Ensenada resort. I know they are working their way down to the ferry and hope they see something interesting along the way!
We are missing him desperately with teary moments throughout the day. Amaris created this fabulous countdown calendar missing an extra 10 days I think in the hope that he comes home sooner.
Thanks to many of you who have shown so much excitement, support and interest in his journey! More to come!
