Singapore's “clean and green” campaign has become more visible and more aggressive over the years, more artificial landscapes emulating natural sceneries are being built across the island. Societies create landscapes in their own image and Singapore aims to be a green tourist destination. “Artificial landscapes can be microcosmos of the larger landscape, but the larger landscape can also be conceptually organized as an extension of the artificial one”.

Transformation of the landscape is like re writing history in both intellectual and emotional terms. Color, surface, texture, proportions and dimensions become symbols of high status, great wealth and overarching authority

Old malay cemetery in Kampong glam (muslim community). Due to land scarcity in Singapore, the government decided to limit the places available for burials. The Urban Redevelopment Authority said land scarcity meant priority would have to be given to other pressing needs, including housing and infrastructure. Those whose religion demands burial, such as Muslims will face some difficulties.
