My Scholarship entry - Work in Indonesia, from seashores up to volcanoes

My name is Giovanni Vichi. I was born in Florence in 1983. In the beginning my approach with photography was a matter of curiosity but soon I realized that seeing the world through a lens was becoming a real passion. So I started taking photography courses and I discovered past and present masters and I studied their work. I work hard to refine my technique and train my eye. From theory to practice: my camera became my inseparable companion during my tours in Florence and it was still with me during my travels in Europe and from the Americas to the East. Travel and photography, two passions of mine so deeply connected one to the other. I’ve always desired to learn about different and distant cultures and photography helped me to get close to them and to discover the world, sometimes in an unexpected way. I don't know what I will shot next but I know photography will bring me somewhere I haven't been to yet. What is the photography for me? R. Barthes has got the right answer: “What the photograph reproduces to infinity has occurred only once: it mechanically repeats what could never be repeated existentially”, and I would add: a beautiful photo is able to do it delivering emotions.
