China MAdrid Valencia

NEW ZEALAND | Thursday, 3 February 2011 | Views [299]

China was great! According to the Chinese I am now a hero because I walked the great wall! It was awesome and hardly any tourists which made up for the cold. Thank goodness for my layers.

The flight to Spain was long and cramped and I was happy to finally arrive at my hotel where I slept for 14 hours. I had forgotten to change the date on my phone so thought I had slept another 24 hours or so and missed meeting Gunther!

Madrid was absolutely magical. Arriving by night to the beatiful palaces and fountains all lit up was like fairyland. We went to lots of great places - the Prado museum was fabulous even though I don´rtunderstand art hsitory very well. We have booked to go to the REnoir exhibition on Saturday. Another highlight was the retiro gardens which was like central park in New York. We both loved it!

We booked a bus all in Spanish to Valencia and arrived this afternoon. I am surprised how few people speak English so we are making the most of my Spanish phrase book and lots of smiles! It usually works well.

Still haven´t adjusted fully to the time difference but not letting it stop me from doing lots of exciting things with Gunthi. She is the perfect travel companion and we have heaps of laughs as we stuff things up!! It´s all part of the experience of living the dream.:)

HASTA LUEGO.

Sue
