My Scholarship entry - A day in Cambodia

My photographic journey began years ago when I picked up my father’s SLR camera, shot some photos, and discovered a passion for photography I never knew existed. It wasn’t long before I’d saved up to buy my own camera and was taking every chance I could to photograph landscapes.
Soon after, I planned a two-month whirlwind world trip, visiting 10 countries on 4 continents, with the objective to take landscape photos. It was then I realised how much I wanted to travel and photograph my adventures.
That trip was 2 years ago; I have learnt a lot about photography and travel in that time. I’m passionate about travel photography, so since that trip I have looked into ways to achieve my dream job of becoming a travel photographer full-time. I have also set up a travel photography blog, Wez Wanders, in the hope of inspiring people to travel to far off countries, or pick up a camera to capture the world around them.
I still have much to learn, and this competition is the opportunity I’ve been looking for: a chance to be mentored in the field of photography I love. To me this isn’t just a photography trip with a professional, but a chance to begin the career I’m truly passionate about.
