My Scholarship entry - Behind the Mountains

A person that is always open minded to learning and growing in what they love to do is destined to be successful. That's exactly how I view this scholarship opportunity. I love to travel and explore new places and could not imagine a more perfect setting than traveling with National Geographic, a world class photographer and being able to learn and mentor under someone who is where I wish to be in life one day. I come from a small coal mining town in the mountains of West Virginia. Through my images, especially of my local area, I try to convey a sense of hope towards a new day in the future where our area thrives again. Photography is my passion, life, and love. Since I was very young I've been ever-fascinated with cameras and enjoyed the thrill of working to get the "perfect shot". Challenging myself to become a better photographer everyday I shot was and still is my priority. The biggest thing I wish to stress in this entry is my passion and drive to learn. This would be the largest opportunity I've ever received and the skills from this experience would be priceless in the life ahead of me. (P.S.; my birthday falls on April 17th..I couldnt think of a better way to celebrate).
