A Western that lived in India

My Scholarship entry - One day of a western walking in India

India | Friday, December 21, 2012 | 5 photos

I do not photograph simply because I like, but because I need it. I need to share the feelings that I have, when I encounter something that thrills me. Images are for me the portray of feelings, of sensations. How can I capture in my camera the taste of an exotic dish? How can describe the silky touch of an Indian sari? How can I speak about the smell of the incense? How can I define, through a photograph, the freshness of the breeze along a desert river? Yes, this is what I look for. What I like to share. Feelings. Images of what I feel. Images that feels.

I can spend hours, walking around the tiny streets of an Oriental bazaar with my camera, or climbing a hill to see the horizon of an ancient village. I take local transport to feel the life of the city. The places that I visit become impressed onto my mind, through my viewfinder. I look for stories and I portray them in pictures and words. I write travel fiction, as well as I shoot. Then, at home (or in the hotel) I process the images and the words. Shape, contrast, brightness, colors... and the final work gradually takes consistency.

Doing photographs can be hard, even more: it must be hard. It is hard because it takes time, effort, energy... but it is great. Because, for me, the most important thing is to be able to feel and to portray those feelings. For me, this is photography.
