Documentary Scholarship 2011 entry

WORLDWIDE | Thursday, 16 June 2011 | Views [241] | Scholarship Entry

I am always inspired by stories. My youngest memories are making stories on old hand-me-down video cameras. I haven’t stopped since.

The video submitted with this application is one of many I have produced, and it captures Sabelo, a Local Encounter I met while filming in South Africa. His heartfelt story just flowed out and consumed me with its own brilliant spark. It was a story I couldn’t leave alone.

I studied Film Media at SAE Melbourne and graduated in 2009. Since then, between holding several contract positions, including work with Network Seven and Movie Extra, I have voluntarily made many professional-quality documentaries for charities.

At the moment, I am preparing a pitch to cross 3 continents to find and create documentaries about national individuals making an impact on poverty in their homeland. Sabelo, the subject of this application’s video, is one great example!

I have to make documentaries; I want to be a professional in this field. I have what it takes; I do it naturally and have been doing so for years. This opportunity with National Geographic Adventure is the perfect step to round off my training and propel my career into professional documentary making.
