My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited
India | Monday, January 14, 2013 | 5 photos
I first became interested in photography about 10 years ago and it has captured my imagination ever since. As a story telling medium I truly believe it is unequaled.
In 2011 I quit my job, put most of my worldly belongings in storage and took a year to travel around various places in Asia. Beyond having incredible experiences, it also allowed me to begin to truly focus on my photography and story telling abilities.
These photos are a few from a month spent in the Gulmarg area of Kashmir. It was near the beginning of our trip and I quickly learned to engage my subjects before shooting and this usually led to gaining access to even better photo opportunities. Patience, cultural sensitivity and timing all play a large roles in getting a good shot.
I also learned I have so much more to learn! Since returning to Canada my mind is constantly turning over story ideas and how to ultimately find my voice in an ever increasing sea of imagery. I'm hoping that if selected to accompany Jason to Oman this would give me the boost I need to realize my dreams of shooting for a living!
Thanks for this great opportunity!
