BANGKOK 5th-8th August
..after a pretty short flight arrival at Bangkok airport..it was still nice and cool, but only due to the air-con..that would change very quickly once we got into the sticky humid air of the city...first experience with Thai taxi drivers, very interesting species, a bit hard to handle, we had to find out how to compare prices first...our hostel was much further away from the center than expected, but that didnt mean it was less noisy out there...bad traffic all day and all night long kept us from sleeping, despite ear plugs and everything woke up at 5 am the latest every day...nevertheless enjoyed our first day with a trip to Siam Square, one of the supermodern sterile shopping centres that are spread all over the city and stand in so much contrast to the noise, heat and numerous smells on the streets...
Another big contrast: Our hostel was located close to one of the notorious Red Light Districts, bright neon lights everywhere you looked...seemed like a totally different place when we went to see Wat Arun and Wat Pho, two of the most beautiful Buddhist temples in Bangkok, where monks live and meditate and families come to pray for good luck, and huge Buddha images make you wonder
Also did a day tour to the Floating Markets...sounds interesting, but it turned out to be a totally tourist-infected place, a web of intersected channels, with little stalls to the left and the right, selling cheap souvenirs and fruit etc...
....gotta stop for today, internet will be shut down soon...
