copenhagen, roskilde

We sadly left Rome (probably our family favorite of the trip so far) and arrived in Denmark in a torrential rain. The weather turns out to be extremely changeable here, but we've mostly been lucky with bright blue skies.

Best moments so far

- great lunch in colorful Nyhaven at an italian restaurant

- National Museet childrens area, where the kids dressed as vikings and built a castle wall with bricks

- Roskilde Viking museet where we learned all about ancient boatbuilding

- Tivoli Gardens: rollercoasters, marching bands, tulips and chinese food (a perfect day for all of us!)

- shockingly large buckets of beer served... well... everywhere

- grass-skirt clad gentleman grooving to the drums at pre-Carnival gathering in front of city hall.

Next stop is Legoland, an early birthday present for Elijah!

Hi family
I loved keeping up with your adventures and I wish I could Legoland and Elijah. I missyou all. Yesterday Ron and I took Gracie to a "blessing of the animals" at a beautiful Japanese walking garden. There were dogs, cats and birds that were brought by their owners. A bagpiper led a procession of all the animals and their owners. In front of the procession was a Dakota Indian medicine man, a buddhist priest, a catholic priest, a rabbi,an interfaith minister and a zen priest. We gathered around a pond and the clergy were on an island in the middle of the pond that connected to the land by a stone walkway. The medicine man "smudged" the animals with burning sage and there was a ceremony to bless all the animals. I just loved it. At one point Gracie leaned forward to drink out of the pond and scared a big bullfrog who made a loud "gribbit" and jumped way up and then splashed down. Gracie jumped back about 2 feet and all the people laughed. It was a beautiful sunny day in Spring and it felt good. I'm glad you are all having a wonderful vacation. Love to al of you
