My Photo scholarship 2010 entry
USA | Thursday, August 26, 2010 | 5 photos
I am a film student from Sydney, about to graduate and hopefully on a path to do something great with my life! I love photography, am constantly inspired and always enjoy capturing a snippet of something controversial or strange.
I enjoy photographs that capture some sort of message as well as the photograph being beautiful.
I recently went on a 6 month exchange to San Francisco to study film and enjoy the American culture. It was honestly the best time of my life. I met the most incredible people, learned wonderful things that has enriched my life and took some photos.
I took trips all around America, but was most inspired by (surprise, surprise) New York City. The atmosphere, the buildings, the people, the children, the politics were all overwhelming.
I have chosen 5 photographs from my collection of NYC photos that most embodies what my experience in that great city entailed. I have specifically avoided photographs of the buildings or just pure landscape because I think it is too easy to take beautiful snapshots with those subject matter.
I've tried to capture the 'magic' of NYC mostly through the eyes of children.
NYC 1 - Taken in Central Park where a group of kids were resting and chatting.
NYC 2 - I was in Soho Manhattan and came across a group of people performing 'skipping' tricks to raise money for their competition. They then got the audience to participate.
NYC 3 - I was in Manhattan on 4th Ave and came across a political protest. There was a sea of Jewish child protesters and then this one woman, walking through the midst of it.
NYC 4 - Taken in Brooklyn whilst taking a stroll in a park.
NYC 5 - I came across this one child in Coney Island who looked so wondrous.
