A redundant spiral staircase leads up to an artists studio. The convent is now an arts precinct; rooms where nuns once made lace to support themselves are occupied by artists of all kinds. The character in the architecture and the stories from residents past is bound to be a constant source of inspiration.

The original kitchen that once served some of the community’s most needy, now houses restaurants like this one which offers migrants and refugees access to hospitality training, and where customers pay a donation for their meal which gives everyone equal opportunity to eat out and be social no matter what their situation.

Once bustling with wayward girls, this was the city’s biggest laundry. The girls were deprived of a proper education but the work was still a far better alternative to prison. It now lies gutted as it waits for funds to give it new life.
