Getting lost amongst the memories of the convents halls you will find the reason it charmed Melbourne into protecting its history and grandeur. Hidden amongst the corridors I stumble onto Handsome Steve's House of Refreshments where i'm once again reminded of the quirky, magical joy that a place like this evokes in all that visit.

It’s easy to forget that you're only minutes from one of Australia’s largest cities while in the grounds of the Abbotsford Convent. It brings a certain kind of joy to everyone who experiences it; whether that be appreciating it’s beauty and history, or experiencing its festivals, arts and unique cafes.

The original kitchen that once served some of the community’s most needy, now houses restaurants like this one which offers migrants and refugees access to hospitality training, and where customers pay a donation for their meal which gives everyone equal opportunity to eat out and be social no matter what their situation.
