About walkers
We are collectively the "Camino Girls", 3 middle aged ladies from Australia who are planning to walk the Camino de Santiago ( Way of St James) in Northern Spain.
We are Sue Leverton from South Australia, Kaye Harris from Victoria and Sandra Jones from Northern Territory.
Sue and Sandra are sisters, and Kaye is Sue's best friend.
This walk has been on Sue's bucket list for 10 years, but unfortunately my husband Allen Leverton was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease and passed away before we were able to do it together.
All 3 of us lost our husbands within a few years of each other, Sandra and Kaye lost their husbands to melanoma cancer.
After making plans to finally do this walk, we decided to also make something good out of our collective loss, and have used the walk to fundraise for the Motor Neurone Disease Research Institute of Australia, and Melanoma Institute Australia. We have fundraising websites under the "Go Fundraise" platform for online donations to these 2 Institutes.
We commence our walk on March 28,from Roncesvalles and plan to arrive Santiago de Compostella on May 3rd, a total of 764 km.
We plan to update this blog with progress reports and photos as we walk "The Way"
