My Photo scholarship 2010 entry

I have been a professional fisherman for over 23 and I was given a camera by my partner to record some bycatch reduction work I was involved in. I started photographing various scenes whilst fishing in moreton bay as i was seeing refences to famous painters particularily Turner, Pollock and Rothko; colorists emoting thru color regardless of form. These images were taken over a period of 3 to 4 months during a fishing season of the summer of 2006 to 2007 and they document the beauty of moreton bay and my sadness in the loss of this fishery due to the marine park rezoning. Some of my particular favourites are the sunset shots which were titled 'rothko's panel van' working from the premise of panelvan/surf/hawaian shirt art combined with a 'rothkoesque' appreciation for color and its emotional charge; in short if Rothko owned a panel van he might have painted it like this. Unfortuanately as i had very little experience with cameras and photography most of these shots were taken at very low resolution but this still does not detract from the beauty and emotional impact that they have. i hope you enjoy these images as I am very proud of them.
