December 2008

Flew from Vancouver to Puerto Vallarta, where I enjoyed the beach, and hung out with some new (and old) friends for nine days. Enjoyed 2-for-1 drinks at Apaches, and many great dinners with new friends every evening. I stayed at the Posada Roger, which is within easy walking distance to the beach.

From here, I headed by bus to Guadalajara, where I stayed for two nights. Walked around the city and enjoyed some sightseeing. On the second day, I headed down for a day trip to Ajijic, which is a nice little artsy town, full of galleries and cafes. Continued onto Chapala, which is located on a large interior lake. From here, I made by way back by local bus to Guadalajara for the evening. Next morning, I headed on to Guanajuato by bus, which is a beautiful town, built on several tall hills. Lots of colourful buildings make it a photographer's paradise. At night, I followed a roaming theatre troop which goes through the small hilly streets singing. This town is definitely worth a visit.

From here, I headed to San Miguel de Allende, which is amazing. Again, full of galleries, restaurants and cafes. Went to La Gruta on New Years Eve, which is a set of thermal pools, and spent a full day swimming and relaxing in the water and sun. Enjoyed an amazing New Year's Eve celebration in a restaurant just off the main square (Restaurant Berlin).

Next morning, I headed to Queretero for one day, which was very nice.

Finally, I headed by bus to Mexico City for the last three days. Spent the first day walking around the central downtown area, window shopping and taking in a few art galleries. The following day was spent in Xochimilco, where I took a gondola through the canals. Recommended.
