My Photo scholarship 2011 entry
New Zealand | Saturday, October 29, 2011 | 5 photos
Returning home after an event which you would never dream could happen in your own backyard shocked and spellbound me. Words could not describe it so I took to it with my camera to try and show not only the devastation but also the hearts of the survivors.
Through these photos I wanted to show that even though the manpower and media coverage was based in the city centre, where search and rescue was taking place, the suburbs were just as badly affected and having to make do on their own. From the now warzone like suburbs and ghost town streets we meet the survivors and their homes.
As I submit this entry to the competition, I hope to show people that no matter what the devastation if people rally together they can do the impossible and hope. My dream and desire is to be a photographic story teller, to capture and show what words cannot describe, to show people a different side of things, one they may usually overlook.
My sheer determination and passion to describe what words cannot to the greater community along with my passion to travel makes this scholarship an opportunity of a life time. A never thought possible dream becoming reality. To be able to be thrown amongst different cultures and perspectives, to tell the story, to open the eyes of the ever blindfolded worlds we surround ourselves in, it would be a miracle within itself.
My desire to learn and become the best I can be, my willingness to give anything a go and the opportunity to learn from the best along with my indescribable passion for photography are the reasons why I am entering this scholarship competition and I thank you for the opportunity.
