Over 12 years in journalism reinforces my belief that people are at the heart of every story. Tell the story of one person well & you can tell the story of many. To me, every place, every story has a purpose & my challenge is to find it & try to make it impactful. I'm a print journalist who has crossed over into filmmaking &multimedia just recently - so I'm still hiccuping & that drives me. But I'm eager to learn, inquisitive, an idea geek, a good observer who loves getting people to speak about their life journeys, and thrive on the challenge of putting a great story together using different media. For me, filmmaker is the ideal mentor as he is a documentarian at heart, is thorough, & skilfully matches a good idea with great visuals.
I am keen to make a travel film on men/ women behind Whale Watching on the Pacific coast of Columbia. It will be , as seen through the eyes of a young whale-watching guide starting from his day at his/her home to when he returns after a day at work. World Nomads will follow him and interview people along the way. This will work on several levels as a travel film - it's a story of a person and his life in a community that is largely undiscovered, the challenges of his job and the highs/lows it brings. The story will have elements of his journey, life in his community, the biodiversity of the coast, how & when whale watching works, what is the human-mammal connect, how tourism impacts the community, the legends of the whales & local heros!
