My Photo scholarship 2011 entry

Worldwide | Sunday, November 6, 2011 | 5 photos

Conservation and the environment are close to my heart. I believe that I can bring about awareness of the plight of wildlife in Africa to a wider audience by travelling with Jason and learning the skills to create great wildlife photography.

I was born in Zimbabwe and on many vacations travelled to the various game reserves around Southern Africa. In my lifetime I have noticed the decrease in areas dedicated to the preservation of the wild. As man we have encroached on the habitats that wild animals, especially the predators depend on for survival. I would like to use my photography to aid in conservation efforts in protecting Africa’s predators.

I am a quick learner and I am passionate about photography. I know that I have the potential to be a great photographer and with guidance, mentorship and more practice I can reach my potential. Capturing the perfect moment in a photograph is what drives me.

I chose the story of the black cats because I felt that cats are often overlooked next to their canine counterparts. Black dog syndrome affects black cats to the same fate with many older cats being euthanized as the pressure builds at rescue shelters. I hope that this photo-story would positively influence the fate of many wonderful rescued cats, by encapsulating their plight within our local communities. Change begins at home after all.
