My Scholarship entry - A local encounter that changed my life

For most people going to America means living the American dream, seeing big places with all of its lights and seeing the Downtown of every city. For me, it meant surviving. My destination was Carson City, Nevada, but I ended up in New Jersey. I did not see much there, just fields spreading to nowhere and places with fast food everywhere. Actually there is one strange thing that I noticed there. If you want to get to the other side of the road, with a car, you have to make circles around one place so many times. They made it so complicated. Before I knew it I was in Indianapolis, Indiana, but the only thing that I saw there was the Indianapolis skyline and that was from the highway. The Indianapolis that I saw was quite similar to New Jersey, but on the other hand so different. There I saw, how America is not all about big lights. In that part of America things were kind of falling apart. There were a lot of ordinary people in everyday life, just sitting near the laundry house wasting their time and observing the situation. In one moment I was scared. I thought to my self how I ended up here, in the middle of nowhere far away from home.
I did not have so much time to think about that, because believe it or not I was on the road again. Next hop was to Kansas City, Missouri. Not much to say, except that it is really, like Americans love to call it for fun, misery. I got to talk to so many people, what was a part of my every day job. Generally Americans that I talked to were friendly and kind, but on the other hand so different from European people. They talk too much about money and how are they going to spend it, but we talk how are we going to earn money and keep it. I was involved in sales slavering.
