Mount Fuji is incredible! When we first arrived we couldn`t actually see Fuji due to the cloud cover but when we eventually did it was peering over the top of the clouds . . . having never seen any "real" mountains it was momentarily surreal.
Climbing Mount Fuji is altogether a different story! Due to a planning cafuffle we knew we didn`t have much time. Also, the climbing season hasn`t started yet meaning all the sleeping cabins are closed. Looking at the snow line above and standing around in our shorts & shirts I`ve never felt so lucky to have limiting circumstances!!
Actually, I`m not sure if it was our un-fitness, the scree or the altitude that made climbing a little slow going. But it involved many stops "to look at the scenery". We were just taking in this scenery from a sitting position when there was this steady plodding noise. A man comes running up, waves and keeps going . . . and there were more! A whole army of joggers merrily running up the slope and out of sight. It`s funny in life like that, just when you think that you are doing something pretty extreme, there is always someone out there to show you just how extreme things can get. So we got up and climbed a little bit more, just to prove we were tough and after a bit we called it a day :)
P.S: you can see photos of snow :D
