My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited - Far east

“The camera is an instrument that teaches people how to see without a camera.” -- Dorothea Lange. I want to learn more. I do ok, but want to be better — tell a better story through images. In turn, I want to share these experiences and images. With my photography, I want people to want to travel (even if it’s in their backyard) and to learn to experience the details they might not have seen. I want people to look up to the sky or tall building, or down at the crack at their feet — not always straight ahead at where they’re going; to pull off the side of the road, or turn around because that sign — oh, that sign! I want people to view life from all the angles. And looking through the lens is the way I’ve learned to be able to do that. A friend said to me recently: we’ve been taking photos for years now, I think we’re finally getting the hang of it. I laughed and said sort of. I took some photography classes in college. I put down the camera for a while and one day, heading out for a trip, I picked it back up and took my trusty Pentax K1000 with me. I learned to look at life through a lens again. I love looking at life as if I were going to shoot it.
