My Scholarship entry - World Heritage - Japan

Travelling without a camera, I feel like something is missing. Like going camping without a flashlight. It gives me purpose and it’s my way of telling my story how I experienced it first hand. I would like the people viewing my photographs to feel what it would have felt like in that moment when the photograph was taken.
About a month ago, one afternoon my manager brought me into a room to say that my position was being made redundant along with other people in the company. It hit me like a brick. Thoughts of what am I going to do now came to mind. Do I pursue a similar role or go for something I am really passionate about? I am using this time now to really reassess what I would like from life.
If successful, I would take this opportunity to enhance my story telling through my photography. Learning from one of the pros of the industry hopefully one day be able to tell story that you don’t see from mainstream media. The things that matter the most to me. Bring awareness to the beauty of nature and the animals that walk the earth who we share this place with and have a duty to protect.
And what better way to spend your 27th birthday than to be doing something you really love.
