Adventures of an Awkward Aspiring Journalist

About utterlyemily

It looks like I was leaping to my death, but I promise I survived. This was in a little village called Nagarkot, where I caught a glimpse of the Himalayas for the first time.

Hello, Bonjour, Ahoj, Namaste,

I'm an almost-22-year-old student currently living in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I'm about to graduate with degrees in journalism and global cultural studies, so you can probably guess that I love writing and traveling. I love learning languages, trying new things (anything once) and making a fool of myself in other countries (seriously, try it, it's the best way to learn about another culture). Sometimes I like to pretend that I'm a mix between Anthony Bourdain and Hunter S. Thompson (sans psychedelic drugs). I also dig poetry, dance, classic rock, politics, current events, and anything related to social justice or human rights issues.

Favorite quote:

"The planet does not need more 'successful people.' The planet desperately needs more peacemakers, healers, restorers, storytellers and lovers of all kinds. It needs people to live well in their places. It needs people with moral courage willing to join the struggle to make the world habitable and humane and these qualities have little to do with success as our culture has defined it. " -The Dalai Lama
