My Photo scholarship 2010 entry
Uruguay | Sunday, October 17, 2010 | 5 photos
These photos were taken on my trip to South America in 2009. After getting dropped off at the side of the road just after midnight my friends and myself where literally left in the dark to find our way to this beach town 'Cabo Polonio'.Delving into the sand off the high way by tourch light , we where unaware of our surroundings until the breath taking morning sunset where we stumbled across beautiful beaches , caves and some lovely natives. All in a town with no electricity or running water. Beautiful and simple , a true escape into a different world. I enjoy travelling this way , taking chances and visiting alternative sustainable communities . Each piece of Cabo Polonio , which is on the east coast of Uruguay , was truely unique and like nothing I have ever seen before . In the photo story I am trying to convey the isolation you feel as surroundings and landscapes seem to go on for miles. The houses that stand on the sandy dunes were man made , build with scraps of wood and put together by the owners in what seemed a constant renovating state as new parts came along . Nothing here was left unused.
This is one of my favourite corners of the world as I love living one with the enviroment , I am a passionate vegan and enjoy being able to sometimes live a more simple life. My favourite way to travel is to have an adventure and experiance a culture which is very differnt to my own back in my home town on Melbourne , Australia . And throughout my 24 years of life I have been lucky enough to do this and have been able to give back to the communities at the same time . During my travels I have developed a love for photography as I feel it is very important to capture my experiance and being able to absorb the surroundings into the frame.
