Romania: a connecting point

My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited: Romania

Romania | Monday, January 14, 2013 | 5 photos

I want to become a better photographer in order to tell stories while bridging distance, cultures, and language by doing it without words.

I grew up in a large family, moved to a major city and studied political science, and now work in creativity and admin. I really enjoy embracing new cultures, travelling, and exploration. As I have become more aware of the diversity of this planet, I desire to give voice to people and places brimming with the lifeblood of a location; to help communicate their essence and story to the world.

I want to tell these stories with photos.

I feel photography can be powerfully accessible. Photography may allow someone who will never write a book the chance for their story to be transported half a world away to someone speaking another language.

I have begun to realize the power photography has to accurately tell, or misrepresent a story. This is why I value mentorship in this area. I want to give people and places a voice through imagery and help open the eyes of children and adults to their world with these stories, and I want to gain the skills to do this accurately and with integrity. I want to learn to take an excellent shot and an honest shot.
