Walk along

INDIA | Monday, 11 May 2015 | Views [100] | Scholarship Entry

As I stride along, I spot a pretty bronze bracelet with glass and silver beads. My eyes gleam with fascination and admiration, once again. It is exceptional; I have not seen anything of that kind before, much like a lot of other riches spread round here. The desire to possess it rushes, just so as to add it to my stash of fortunes. I am lost for a moment or two, in my unsure thoughts amidst the worldly bedlam. Pausing for a moment, I breathe and think; and without a second to miss, I do the purchase and carefully toss it into my bag. As I look around, I now realize that I have to choose my inspirational path and destiny with new hunts, once again.

There is an assortment of the most alluring, exquisite and yet trivial objects around me. I am surprised to see how we allocate the beauty within us into tangibles. My endeavour to purchase is nothing more than an effort to include that strand of beauty in my world. Each trip is an adventure, filled with reminiscences of all sorts of diverse people, myriad colours and new treasures; no matter how old or how far any of it is.

Here, I am somewhere I truly resonate with, I can truly be the explorer; the flea market. It is here that I grow to experience what I love doing the most- discovering new wonders, rendezvous with new people, shopping till I drop, and learning something new. New to me is not ‘brand new’ but more like ‘novel’ or ‘recently encountered’.

I fantasize of a day when I can travel the world to be in flea markets of every possible kind. That would be the day when I could conjure up my own stash of treasures.
