An Ethiopian classroom builds a bridge between artistic experience and culture

My Scholarship entry - Through Local Eyes

WORLDWIDE | Sunday, 14 October 2012 | Views [181] | Scholarship Entry

We view the world through a creative lens. The dominant role of sight in art inspired us to explore experiences of artistic expression if sight were to vanish. Children of the German Church School (a school offering free, inclusive education) shared their experiences and inspiring spirit with us. In a classroom we gained the privilege to sense a country’s culture and faith through local eyes.

We have created found footage projects, media installations and short films. We are working on two documentaries, that will capture a trip to Prague in November, where we will also visit the FAMU festival. Sarah Noa majors in film, engages with script writing, theory, 16 mm, video, sound design and editing. She attended the Summer Academy by the Locarno Film Festival 2012 to explored production techniques and thread inspiring connections with other filmmakers.

We aim to explore beauty within culture and community across the world, which exists even, or perhaps especially, in hard living conditions. We want to engage with moments that light up a screen. This is our immense opportunity to discover the smiles of Rio de Janeiro, a place so colorful that it is destined to make us smile too.
