Sao Paulo is a crowded city all over the year. Nevertheless, in vacation people travel to the littoral, some miles out of here to relief from the stressful routine. But some days before the Christmas there is a spot where people shopping immoderately: 25 de Março.
We were two days before the Christmas. So I decided to take my chance and went to Sao Paulo. I have approximately a hundred dollars to spend. As I live in a city far from here, I did not know the city very well. I got a crowded train early in the morning, got the subway and I have followed until my destination.
My odyssey began at “Anhangabaú station”. I was instructed wrongly. I supposed to get off two stations behind. I was led out of the station by hurried people. Outside the station I just followed my path.
It was an unknown place for me. I walked through a bridge where I saw homeless people, the Vale do Anhangabaú and the majestic Municipal Theatre. Despite admiring those places, I was lost in the sleepless city. It was almost noon.
Then I saw a building emerging from 24 de Maio Street. I got overwhelmed by its structure. I have to confess that I was somewhat worried because there were strange people surrounding the place. There were punks and heavy metal fans smoking marijuana outside. Even feeling a bit intimidated for being alone there, I took guts and got into the building.
It was amazing. I looked to a gallery and I saw different kinds of stores. I saw a dude leaving the gallery. He had his eyes tattooed. I got anguished by only seeing!
– What the heck am I doing here? – I thought.
But my curiosity was great. I got into the tattoo house and people looked at me in a strange way. They asked me where my tattoos were. I told them I did not have any of them. They led me to a chair and showed to me the tattoos catalogue. I chose a medium tattoo because I have no enough money to pick the bigger one.
After that I had spent all day long on the stores. There were albums of Elvis Presley, Nirvana, among others iconic rock stars. So I was in the heaven.
It was twilight when I left the building. There I made my first tattoo – a little skull in my arm –, bought three LPs, two CDs, two rock bands T-shirts and a game to my Xbox 360. I had spent ninety dollars in all these items.
Despite not living in Sao Paulo, that was one of the great experience I have ever had there. Galeria do Rock is a place everyone should visit in Sao Paulo . As someone said before, after the storm comes the calm.
