They call this place the land of 1000 smiles.
Shifty salesman and dubious drivers feed off the compulsive consumers, but it's easy to escape.
Just take a few steps back, get far away from the maddening crowds and observe the little details. The sincerity of a Thai greeting, the serene and seemingly endless mountains that come and go as you sail the sea, the feasts prepared in front of your eyes on the street. These are just some of the simple pleasures that can be found in abundance.
It is only through these that the true spirit of the country manifests; the people and culture begin to shine through and the real meaning to the title start to become apparent.
