My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Japan | Sunday, January 13, 2013 | 5 photos

Photography has always been intriguing to me. From a young age I remember flipping through my grandparents photo albums and getting lost in a world of my imagination and wonder at the grainy black and white images. I was always surprised at the way the photos were able to almost preserve who my grandparents use to be. It was in those early years of life that the seed was planted and I didn’t even realise.

In February of 2011 I decided to chase my childhood dream of becoming a photographer and enrolled in a private arts college. I experienced many fields of photography during my one year of college and quickly realised that my passion did not lie in studio photography. I explored other disciplines of photography and soon became obsessed with street, travel and documentary photography.

My true goal in photography has never been to get paid sums of money, instead I always hoped to capture an image of worth that would be appreciated and admired for generations to come. These memories and stories are the most important part of photography to me as it was a collection of memories in an old album that first sparked my interest in this art.
