My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

Photos allow people to dream. To sit in their home, flick a page and let their mind take them away. As pages turn, faces and locations are revealed. A reaction occurs. Perhaps one of surprise, sadness, shock or happiness. These reactions are why I want to be a photographer. I believe that through photography I can tell a story of the world less travelled. The reason I know this is because four years ago I was that person. I sat in my house in Sydney and knew it was time to turn those pages into reality. I bought a ticket to London and set out on what became a four-year life-changing journey across the world. The last four years as a Contiki Tour Manager in Europe and Southeast Asia has widened my perspective in life. The opportunities and limitations that are presented in different regions are phenomenal. It is thoughts like this that make me want to learn more about the world and photograph it along the way. I am driven to take better photos so that I can tell their story. The story of millions of people that have never left their town, country, community, or tribe and the breathtaking or unbearable places that they preside. I want to be able to bring all this to the reader.
