Roaming Pascagoula

My Photo scholarship 2010 entry

USA | Tuesday, August 10, 2010 | 5 photos

These photos convey the old beauty of my hometown of Pascagoula, Mississippi. This town is situated on the coast of Mississippi, and is an industrial town.

The shot of an antebellum house allows one to grasp an idea of how old Pascagoula is. The history of this town is rich and goes back to when the French were establishing forts and colonies.

The sunset picture shows that even though my hometown is small and not well known it still possesses many treasures.

The railroad crossing sign represents the many train tracks that snake through the town. Although Pascagoula has many industrial plants, such as Chevron and First Chemical, and a shipyard (Northrop Grumman) the industry draws attention to the physical attractiveness of the town.

The photo of the highway and bridge represent the traffic and busy times of day in Pascagoula. U.S. Highway 90 runs straight through the town and defines North and South sections to the locals.

The photo of the blade of grass looking out to the water shows the hidden beauty of Pascagoula's inner river.

I believe I am fit for this contest because my dream career is to work for National Geographic and to photograph the world. I hold a passion for the outdoors like no other. I love to be outside and to explore what is unknown to me. Discovering new locations brings indescribable joy to me. Since I was six years old I have had a camera in my hand. Throughout middle school and high school my teachers told me that I had a talent for writing and creativity, so I plan to put those gifts to use by writing articles. My dream is to travel the world, especially remote locations where no person has been, and to capture photos that document our planet's many wonders. This is why I believe I should be chosen for this expedition.
